Green Team meets again! October lst

Results of October 1, 2011 Green Team Meeting

1-Teresa has been advised of a web site used as clearing house to find homes for church items such as pews, altars etc.  She will look into it to see if any of our needs for Barn and Chapel can be met here.

2-Leonard Gabriel can provide free interior paint for use by our volunteers to paint offices and multiuse rooms.

3-The Wells family has offered to provide concrete floor sealant at no cost.  Bob/Teresa will ask Chuck Lacey if it is acceptable product and if he willing to use it in the Barn.

4-Bob/Teresa will ask Chuck Lacey if he plans to install a dryer vent in Barn laundry room.

5-The sloped area north of Barn between Barn and Angel Woods will be sown with native grasses, flowers and/or wildflowers.  Teresa will get estimate from vendor to kill off existing grass on the slope.

6-Consider installing small stained glass artwork in some interior walls in the future.  For example, if we name a conference room after St. Joseph, we may want to build a niche in conference room wall, install stained glass and have back lighting.

7-Consider having simple Stations of the Cross placed on walls of east part of Main Room for use when inclement weather prevents use of outdoor stations. (Eagle Scout?)

8-Storage room next to conference rooms is called The Stall.  This room has high ceiling which would allow for installing overhead shelving on East and West walls.  Consider a future project of single shelf about 4 foot wide and 7 feet above floor for storing light weight materials.  (Eagle Scout?)

9-Altar and Ambo for Chapel will most likely come from St. Anns (24th and Poppleton, Omaha).   It will be delivered before floor is in place in Chapel.  Bob/Teresa will find out if we should place altar on concrete floor and place tile around it or install floor tile and set altar on tile.  i.e. will tile support weight of altar?   Consider storing altar in The Stall until needed.  Also keep altar on wheels while stored here.

10-Kitchen will have electrical outlets dropped down from ceiling onto each of the two work tables.  Tables will be fixed to the floor, so outlets should be attached to the tables.

11-If any of the Barn utilities include propane we need to decide where to bury the propane tank.  Also should we buy systems that are easily adapted to natural gas in the future?

12-Existing septic system may be due for pumping.  Teresa will schedule pumping and also measure tank volume.

13-Large cross made from utiity poles needs to be set up.  Need to determine appropriate location. (Eagle Scout?)

14-Green Team should plan on finishing siding on house on October 22, 2011.

15-Green Team needs to develop plans for benches, shelving, tools for The Shop.  (Eagle Scout?)

16-Teresa/Jessi will order overhead garage door for The Shop.

17-Ask Chuck Lacey  to install two more electrical outlets in womens restroom in Barn.

Eagle Scout and/or Service Projects at Pro Sanctity Retreat Center and Camp
2011
11002 N. 204th Street - Elkhorn, NE 68022
402-289-2670 or psm@prosanctity.org

Go to Blog for regular Eagle Scout Updates:
http://prosanctityretreatcenter.blogspot.com/
(NOTE: Due to the devastating fire of this past October, many projects are
opening up, check often, for new items!)

1. Three Season Play Barn - place for children to play and keep play
equipment to be located in back of the new Facility

2. We would like to have a nice, clear, visible sign for the entrance way.
We have all that marble behind the angel woods that could be used to hold a
slab of wood or slate upon which we could put the words: Pro Sanctity
Retreat Center...it would be an easy sign.

3. Paint and restore the Yellow School Bus that was damaged in the fire. We
will have it serviced, but it needs a complete clean up from inside to
outside, painted, safety checks, etc. This all needs to be done soon. So if
someone needs a project fast this would be a good one.

4. Fix up Old House: Paint the retreat house and replace some boards with
siding. It is a job that could be done this summer and would be a great team
effort.

5. Retreat Center signs: one out of wood and one out of marble - great
challenge project! We have two designs in mind, but are open to the Scouts
creative planning.

6. Landscaping this next fall when the new Center is up...many projects will
be available.

7. We lost all our sports equipment and play areas in the barn due to the
Fire. We need some creative scout to collect equipment, find ways to store
it in the new facility, indoor and outdoor play storage areas, etc.

8. Compost Barrel turner - design and create.

9. Computer savvy scout who would design a blog just for Eagle Scout
Projects: pictures, names, details, updates, ...would be a great way to say
thanks to the past scouts and a super way to invite future scouts to
consider projects!

Green Teem to DOOOO - April 2, 2011

TIRE SWING  ROPE wore out and we need to replace it, but we need an extended long ladder…anyone have one??

MULCH: I will order a truck load of mulch; we will need it for the play areas and trees to come.

TREES: We sent in the OPPD Tree Foundation, and Len G. has many small trees to bring out, so we will need to plant and mulch. We need to check on and straighten up the small trees by the cabin – especially before mowing season starts.

LIGHTS: The entrance lights to the property are out, and we need to change them or see if there is a problem with the electricity.

GRASS SEEDING?? It is time now I think!

ENTRANCE BELL: The warning bell that Len and Larry attached to the entrance way of the property has been disconnected because it keeps ringing, so I think we need a new one. It is a feature I appreciate very much, because we are aware when someone comes on the property and with the building going up, this will be even more important. Any ideas on what kind to buy that can withstand the harsh weather?

WATER FOUNTAIN: Could someone help me get the water fountain in the cabin working for the Saturday afternoon group?

SERVICE: I have several kids coming to do service this Saturday, we need to give them some projects…#1We have to get the cabin ready on Saturday morning for the 8th grade retreats starting that afternoon!

Great quote for the day!

"We become saints not by thinking about it, and not (certainly) by writing about it, but simply by doing it. There comes a time when the "how?" question stops and we just do it.

If the one we love were at our door knocking to come in, would we wonder how the door lock works, and how we could move our muscles to open it?"

Builders for Hope

New Pro Sanctity Center is scheduled to open June 12th with an open house/shower and on November lst it should have everything finished. Jump on board and help us out with time, talent and donations…spread the word! Pray, pray, pray!

Volunteers for the new building would include someone for the following:

Call or write if you have services, ideas or donations!

Teresa at 402-289-2670 or psm@prosanctity.org

Cabinets, shelves, carpentry, hang doors, lay tile, paint, landscaping, and misc.

We would like to put up on our own a three season play (pole) barn, on the west side of the cabins, that the children could use for toys, ping pong, a pool table, storage of outdoor play equipment and a place for the children to do crafts and messy sorts of things! It would have lights and maybe a ceiling fan, but not heating and air-conditioning.

We also need a machine/tool shed, for mowers, equipment, tools, workbench. It would be good to have it on the west side of the new building.

Electrical, mechanical and plumbing will be contractors and some have volunteered already.  If you know someone let us know!

-----------------------------

We need mowers and weed eaters very soon. We have dreams of a “grasshopper” mower that would also have attachments for snow blowing and grading, but we would be happy with a second hand working riding mower for now, that would get us by until we can get the real thing.

A full wish list is available just ask: psm@prosanctity.org

Teresa!

TREE PROCJECT Eagle Scout Project

FROM ALEX: Hi, my name is Alex Schmitz. I am currently searching for eagle scout projects and was wondering if you could give me some more information about the OPPD tree donation project. I was specifically wondering about how many trees are usually donated and when.

Thank you!

----------------------------------------

To Alex:

 Alex,

We send in an application for Trees this month. We ask for a certain amount of money and they confirm it and then we buy five foot trees (they don’t want us buying little one gallon size trees). It gets approved in June and then we send them the bill according to the amount we were allotted. I am going to ask for $1500.00 and hopefully receive enough for 6 to 10 trees. You then have to show where you will put them (we will give you the basic place) landscape, dig large holes, place and plant properly the trees, stake them and create a plan to be given to us for their maintenance. You can put a plaque by them with the official species, your name and troop. You can also put a bench or make a picnic table to sit under then….some ideas.   The whole project has to be done and approved by December lst, 2011.

Three more Eagle/Service project ideas

1. We would like to have a nice, clear, visible sign for the entrance way. We have all that marble behind the angel woods that could be used to hold a slab of wood or slate upon which we could put the words: Pro Sanctity Retreat Center…it would be an easy sign.

2. We need the Yellow Bus that was slightly damaged in the fire, to be cleaned up, painted, new reflectors, replace cracked drivers window, and then take it to Jensen in Fremont for a complete check. This all needs to be done soon.

3. An eagle scout could easily take the hay rack and rebuild it, paint it and put new tires…

Special Note

Dear Green Team,

Help! Will anyone, or could anyone, be out this Saturday? I have a young man who will come to do service hours (he can come around 11:45 am), and I would like if someone could help him prepare the cabin for upcoming retreats. We need to move the table out of the hallway to the east side and set it up as a place to work if possible. Clean and ready both sides for groups.  I have to go to Wichita and will be back Sunday morning.

Upstairs sitting room: Ken or Bob, could either of you help me Thursday morning to rearrange the freshly painted upper room? Thanks to Bob it is ready and I have a small cabinet that will replace the old dresser drawers.  I am still looking for a light hide-a-bed or comfortable couch bed of sorts to replace the bed. We want the room to function as a sitting room during the year , extra sleeping room when needed and counselor room during the summer. That’s all!

Please note the projects in the previous post and add what else you think would be a good Eagle Scout or service project.

Thanks so much!! Teresa

Pro Sanctity Barn Raising of another kind! from Lesa Lindsay

PLEASE SUPPORT THIS EVENT!

The new, not a barn anymore, Pro Sanctity Retreat and Camp Center

(Work has begun already and the date for completion is slated for August 2011)

Dear Friends:

I was simply discussing the needs of Pro-Sanctity with my dear friend Kristi Coughlin when, true to her action oriented nature, she graciously offered to host a Pampered Chef Barn Fire Kitchen Shower for Pro-Sanctity! As you may or may not know - Pro-Sanctity's Barn housed the kitchen which fed numerous guests (including Camp Fun & Faith for Girls) for nearly 20 years. The barn along with the kitchen and all the contents burned to the ground this past October.

This Kitchen Shower is in cooperation with Pro-Sanctity and a list is included below for their kitchen needs. We'd love for you to join us however, if you can't, YOU DON'T HAVE TO ATTEND to make a gift. Simply go to the consultant's Website: http://www.pamperedchef.biz/lisagarrett?showId=2913731 and enter Kristi's name to make the purchase.

Please note that Kristi has mandated that what would traditionally be a gift to the hostess is ALSO being donated to Pro-Sanctity according to their needs. SO your gift gives TWICE. Once for your purchase and again as a contribution to the hostess gift Pro-Sanctity will receive. Please read the evite below, consider a gift for the Pro-Sanctity effort AND pass this email on to your contacts.

Thank you in advance and may God bless you.

Sincerely in Christ,

Lesa Lindsay – Pro Sanctity Member and Coordinator of the KVSS Pro Sanctity Holiness Helpers Radio Show

We'll taste a delicious recipe, try tools that make kitchen tasks easier, and learn entertaining and cooking tips. And you won't believe how simple the recipes are! We can also catch up with each other while we shop.

Please let me know if you can make it. Mark the date on your calendar and ask a friend or two to come along!

Kristi Coughlin and I are joining forces to help Pro Sanctity rebuild their kitchen. You may or may not know, Pro Sanctity is a retreat center in Elkhorn, Nebraska that provides Camp Fun and Faith for girls. Since the devastating fire, the center is slowly rebuilding. With your help, we can re-stock their kitchen. Please join me and Kristi for a unique experience helping a unique organization. If you cannot attend, you can still help. Just visit my website, enter Kristi's name and then make your purchase for Pro Sanctity. If you have questions feel free to contact me (659-0990) or Kristi. Below is the link to Pro Sanctity and the registry to help you make your purchase. Thank you in advance for helping Pro Sanctity get back on their feet!

Pampered Chef Party for Pro Sanctity

Sincerely in Christ,
         Lesa Lindsay

We'll taste a delicious recipe, try tools that make kitchen tasks easier, and learn entertaining and cooking tips. And you won't believe how simple the recipes are! We can also catch up with each other while we shop.

Please let me know if you can make it. Mark the date on your calendar and ask a friend or two to come along!
